MENS Group, or Men Exploring Non-Violent Solutions
WHAT: The MENS Group is a collaborative effort between the justice system, women's shelters and Hidden Brook Counseling Services to end domestic violence.
WHY: The purpose of the group is to help men understand that acts of physical or psychological violence are a means of controlling a partner's actions, thoughts, and/or feelings. Secondly, to increase motivation to change negative behavior through challenging beliefs that reinforce continued violence. The group also provides practical information on how to become non-controlling and non-violent.
HOW LONG: Typically there are 39 group sessions to complete the program. Additionally, each participant attends a planning/discharge session to assess the need for Aftercare services.
BENEFITS: Learn healthier ways to relate to partners and children to begin the much needed healing process.
